Tuesday Evenings* Lower Hall 7:00pm
The Alpha course is a series of sessions that explore the Christian faith, and it usually takes twelve weeks to complete with a day away in the middle. Absolutely everyone is welcome to come along. Alpha attracts adults from different ages, cultures and backgrounds and over 7,000 Alpha courses are currently running across the UK. Each talk or session looks at a different question about Christianity and is designed to create conversation and encourage people to share what they think. No two Alphas are the same, but they usually have three key things in common: good food, a talk and interesting conversation.

Why Do People Attend?

People attend Alpha for lots of different reasons; some want to investigate whether God exists; others are concerned about what happens after death. Some people have questions that they would like to discuss; others want to understand other peoples’ beliefs or would like to explore what the purpose of life is. Many have never been to church before; others may have attended church occasionally but feel they have never really understood the Christian faith.

The Alpha course is designed primarily for people who aren’t church goers, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t attend if you do go to church! Each course is open to anyone who would like to come along.

How the Course Works

We usually begin the evening with a meal! It’s a great way to start, as food always helps to bring people together and it’s no different at Alpha.

Then we have a talk of about twenty-five minutes long, which can be a live talk or played as a video. Each talk is designed to explore the big issues around our faith and unpack the basics of Christianity.

This is followed by a time of discussion in small groups and is one of the most important parts of Alpha. Everyone has chance to share thoughts and ideas and discuss concerns or difficult questions. There’s no obligation to say anything and there’s nothing you can’t say. It’s an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective in an honest, friendly and open environment.

There are two other groups that meet at the same time. They also share a meal with us, but split off separately afterwards. These are groups that help young Christians grow in their faith and understanding of God.

The first is called ‘Growing In Christ,’ and this group looks at what the Bible says about various things. The second is the Freedom In Christ group. This group helps people understand and apply the things we learn from the Bible to our lives.

We run two courses – one in Church that is designed primarily for refugee and asylum seekers with translation into Farsi, and another course for English speakers that will be run in the home of our Pastor and his wife.

How Do I Join?

It’s easy to enroll on Alpha and there is no charge for attending. The details of our up and coming courses can be seen below. Simply contact the church office and book over the phone; ask to speak to Susan and she will book you onto the next course.
