John is married to Evelin and they have three teenage boys to keep life interesting.
He became a Christian at the age of 12 at a Youth holiday and has been actively involved in church since then. He trained as a pharmacist and has worked around the UK but also has worked in Nepal with a medical mission, helping the poor and disadvantaged. He sees the church as a family who are learning together to walk closer with God, and has a desire to support those around him develop that relationship.
He is a leader in the Boys’ Brigade and is a member of the sound team.
He enjoys running, cycling and is trying to climb all the Munros in Scotland (but is making very slow progress!)
Carlie came to Stockton Baptist Church in 1988 after her family moved to the area and has benefited from many of the church activities herself over the years. She has served in many roles including youth work, audio visual, worship band, student work and heading up the treasury team.
In 2017 Carlie began her second stint as church treasurer and deacon having previously served from 2006 to 2010. Carlie is married to Mark and they have two boys, Noah & Ben. Outside of Church Carlie trained as an accountant and currently works as a manager in the NHS.
Andy is married to Julie and they have two sons, Thomas and James (and a Labrador called Spice.)
Andy became a Christian aged 11 at a Youth Conference. He grew up in a Christian home and has been a member at SBC since the mid 1980’s, where he met Julie. He presently works for a company specialising in compliance with Packaging Waste Regulations, which is becoming more prevalent due to programs on TV like the Blue Planet.
He, and Julie spend a lot of time supporting their son, James, who has Autism. James is a keen DJ and Julie and Andy regularly ‘roadie’ for him. Andy also enjoys walking the dog & watching sport, especially football and tries to get to see live matches at Newcastle as often as he can.
Andy would like to see more men in the church get involved, and would encourage them to meet socially to be supportive of each other in their walk with God.
Matty is newly married to his wonderful wife Jess. They in particular passionately love the urban communities in Teesside in which they live. They long to see a move of the Holy Spirit, which results in God’s kingdom advancing and disciples being made in those areas. Matty’s heart is to see every believer take hold of their identity as a child of God, called to be a disciple on a mission to make disciples that make disciples, in whatever context God has put them. Matty and Jess love having people round for food, escaping to the mountains and training their German Shepherd puppy (or at least trying to!)
Alex is our Youth Pastor and oversees the work amongst 11-18 year olds at church. His wife, Amy, also supports him in this ministry. Having been involved in youth ministry in various ways since leaving university, he is passionate about seeing young people develop a life-long faith in Jesus. He wants to see the church become an intergenerational community of love, support, and encouragement. In his free time he enjoys sport, reading a good book, and watching films.
I became a Christian over 30 years ago after being invited to the Church by Ruth, who became my wife. We have 3 children Becky, Jonny and Sarah, as well as 2 Border Collies! I am a retired GP but as a Christian you never actually retire. I head up the Church’s International Mission Action Group and have helped organise a number of mission trips to Uganda and Kenya. Ruth and I love to show hospitality and the Ingleby Barwick Home Group meets at our house. I love encouraging and helping people to grow in their walk with the Lord. In my spare time I enjoy exercising, gardening, photography and restoring my old MG sports car.
Diane is married to Paul and they have 3 fabulous, grown up children, Matthew, Jess and Sophie. She became a Christian at the age of fourteen, having had no previous involvement with church. Seeing the difference that knowing God made to the lives of her grandparents and hearing the gospel message had a huge impact on her, and one that has affected the rest of her life. Diane is very much involved in the music ministry at Church and loves to sing and lead others in worship. She is also part of her local Life Group. Diane works as a nurse with vulnerable young people in the community, a role that she finds challenging but very rewarding. In her spare time, she loves making and listening to music, travelling, spending time with her family and walking her Cocker Spaniel, Darcey.
I am married to Peter and we have two children, Isaac (10) and Martha (7). I started my new role as Children’s Pastor early in 2017 and we are enjoying being part of our new church family here in Stockton. As well as a desire to see children growing to know and love God, I also have a passion for musical worship and enjoy leading children in worship and exploring ways for children and adults to worship together. I play piano, flute, saxophone and I sing (not all at the same time!) and when I get some spare time I like to draw, paint and catch up on Australian soaps!
Julie became a Christian and was baptised here, at Stockton Baptist Church in October 2006. She has served the church over the past few years in a variety of practical ways and was delighted to be elected to serve as a Deacon in 2016. Currently her key responsibilities are to help co-ordinate the Welcome Team and to encourage others to serve on the Communion rota. Julie wants to see a church that reaches out, so that everyone feels welcome and finds a place to grow in their faith and encourage each other.
Elaine became a Christian in 1993 and was baptised in the River Tees, close to the church in the spring of 2012. She was elected to the role of Deacon in 2016, a role that she is committed to and feels privileged to hold. She is passionate about developing and promoting the influence of the church in the fast moving, ever changing world that we live in. Amongst other duties, she has responsibility for overseeing the work of the church audio-visual team and preparing their rotas. She also teaches English to our Asylum seeker friends. In addition to her Church duties, Elaine works for the Northern Baptist Association as Personal Assistant to the Regional Minister.
Paul has been at the church since 2009 when he married Helen. They have two young daughters, Martha and Holly. Paul became a deacon at the end of 2012 and is involved in the company section of Boys Brigade. He also works with the church’s youth group, and wants to see the younger church generation growing in their faith and moving forward in what God has planned for them. Paul’s vision is that God will use the Church to bring the gospel to as many people as possible in Stockton. He works as an electrical contractor and loves playing football, snowboarding and motor biking.
Lawrence serves as an Elder at Church and also co-leads one of our life groups. He was born into a Christian family, was baptised in 1969 as a schoolboy and was nurtured through the Baptist Bible- based evangelical and educational programs. Since coming to this country in 1989, Lawrence has worshiped in London, Leeds and latterly in Teesside. He is married to Femi and they have two boys, Bola, 24 and Fola, 20. Lawrence and Femi work locally in Health and Education respectively. As well as his work and church duties, Lawrence enjoys walking and visiting the gym to keep fit when time allows.
John and his wife, Heather moved to the Church in 1973 and have recently celebrated fifty years of married life together. They have three married children and five grandchildren…so far! John and Heather have served in many roles in Church and John was at one time our assistant minister. He currently serves on the Alpha Plus team and was also recently appointed as the moderator for the Northern Baptist Association. John is a retired teacher.
Ken has been an elder for over 25 years and is married to Fiona. They have three daughters and four grandsons. Together they have served in a number of roles in the church, and currently help to lead the Alpha and discipleship courses. Ken is a lay preacher, and a mentor to the Youth For Christ workers. A retired doctor, he runs a local group of the Christian Medical Fellowship, and is chairman of their national board of trustees. He points out that he is still a supporter of the Arsenal football club!
Mark comes from an Anglican background and became a Christian when he was 14. He is married to Carolyn and they have two children – Robbie, aged 22, and Eve who is 16. They joined the Church in the early 1990s and have been involved in leading youth activities since that time. Mark is particularly passionate about expressing God’s love through active involvement in environmental projects and social justice issues. He is now a primary teacher, having previously managed the Museums Service in Stockton. Mark enjoys attending live music events however, he admits that his big failing is being a season ticket holder at Bradford City!
Pete has been married to Lynn for fifteen years and together they share the responsibility of the Church secretarial role.
Pete is passionate about our church relating to the wider community. He is keen to look outwards working and serving Stockton people, to look forward having a strategic view of our future ministry and also to look upward in dependence on our heavenly father. He is involved in the church’s work with Refugees and Asylum Seekers and is also currently working closely with the Architect in respect of a possible exciting extension to the Church premises.
In his spare time (and as a former finance professional,) Pete offers friendship to Christians in widely varying economic situations as they confront personal, spiritual and financial issues. He is also Company Secretary to Auckland Castle Trust.
Pete and Lynn both support Durham County Cricket and Pete is a lifelong Boro fanatic. He also enjoys classical music and is a keen pianist!
Andrew is married to Denise and is the proud Dad of three grown-up sons. A Christian since the age of 19, and in full-time church leadership since 1991, Andrew is excited about the town’s churches playing their part in the transformation of Stockton. He also looks forward to seeing our Church experience more of the presence of God and the power of the Holy Spirit. Andrew enjoys playing the guitar (pointing out that he’s suffered for his art and now it’s the audience’s turn) and walking the dog on local beaches with Denise.
